Abstract

PAZ RADA, Eduardo. Dispute and political and historical crisis in the processes of integration in Latin America. Temas Sociales [online]. 2017, n.41, pp.27-62. ISSN 0040-2915.

The regional integration processes that took place in Latin America and the Caribbean, those that excluded the USA, achieved remarkable success the last twelve years. Nevertheless, in the present day, this processes weakened and now they are struggling with a local tensions and crisis as well with a new geopolitical scenario. The political swing in countries such as Brazil and Argentina and the upheaval in Venezuela are important issues that affect the integration policy for the whole continent. In order to understand this situation, this paper addresses the experiences, development and perspectives of CELAC, UNASUR and ALBA by contrasting a diversity of theoretical and political standpoints that allow us to figure the actual landscape and the streams that would be possible to follow.

Keywords : Regional integration; political crisis; people's diplomacy; Latin America.
