Abstract One of the great problems of society at both regional and national and local is linked to the increase in criminal violence and insecurity. In this context, quite violent and insecure, the city of El Alto is considered the most dangerous, violent and unsafe city in the country, which has led to the state and civil society to develop a series of form a land informal mechanisms to prevent and face this dramatic reality. Linked to this last point, this article describes some self-protection mechanisms that have developed the neighboring city of El Alto, in particular the residents of some areas of the Municipal District I.
