The struggle for university autonomy in Latin America begins with the Manifest of Cordoba in 1918. In this article we analyze the concept and history of university autonomy in Bolivia. The conquest of Autonomy in 1930, the University Revolution of 1970, the resistance of government interventions, the first internal Congress of the UMSA, the attacks of the Evo Morales government's on the public university system and the current perspectives of university struggle. University autonomy is atool for social transformation, when linked to social struggles.
