A lot information has gotten described, researched and analyzed about COVID-19. Undoubtedly, the research conducted on the virus nature, its different therapies or the various ways of preventing this disease show scientific and technological results. However, these results also show highly controversy on intellectual property elements found in this process. In addition, it is known that intellectual property gives protection to products of research and development activities in favor of researchers, institutions or companies that invest significant economic resources in support of researches while, from the social perspective, these medical, technological and pharmaceutical solutions on this health matter are not properly protected due to the lack of a patent.

This article presents the most relevant theoretical revision on the COVID-19 disease, as well as revisions through documentary research of scientific articles, books, electronic medical pages and patents related to COVID-19 vaccines. It also presents the study on the technological development of different platforms for obtaining vaccines, and biological features of COVID-19 disease.

In this regard, this paper shows the study of the regulatory issue to be met for the emerging approval of the vaccine against the SARS CoV- 2 virus for each of the technological platforms given by the World Health Organization and the Mexican regulatory agency, the Federal Commission against Sanitary Risks, which acronym in Spanish is presented as COFEPRIS. This item takes into consideration other industrial property figures such as trademarks and industrial designs. Copyright is also another important issue in the field of Intellectual Property, mainly due to publications.

Finally, this article describes the importance of vaccines before coming back to face-to-face classes, thus, to the new normal, especially in the educational branch, particularly referred to students in the chemical-biological sciences area. Scientists’ thoughts are also considered in the pros and cons for the patents law in favor of the vaccine development.
