Introduction:

the pandemic caused by SARS-CoV-2 produced mild, moderate and severe cases of COVID-19, with a lethality of up to 3%, motivating teams to investigate vaccines against this agent.

General objective:

to evaluate the effectiveness of the Sinopharm vaccine in hospitalized patients of the COVID-19 Area in the “Dr. Benigno Sanchez” hospital of Quillacollo, between the months of March 2021 and March 2022.

Material and methods:

it is an observational study of analytical type, subtype cases and controls, longitudinal prospective. The population was 355 patients, obtaining a sample of 126 patients subdivided into case-control groups, each with 63 patients.

Results and conclusions:

the effectiveness was 32%. The proportion of cure rate prevented by the vaccine was 19%. There is a significant relationship between vaccination status, contagion wave and contagion condition (p< 0,05). Being vaccinated or being male, are considered protective factors.
