Challenge-based learning (RBL) is an active and innovative methodology, which applied in higher education would seek to articulate the training sector with the productive sector. Therefore, it is necessary to promote its use and dissemination. The objective of the study was to identify the innovative elements of the ABR methodology and which training and employability competencies are developed. The methodology used was a literature review, the search was conducted in databases such as: Scopus, Scielo, Redalyc, Ebsco, Dialnet and Google Scholar. The results were based on 5 years old studies conducted in universities and institutes of higher education, finding 27 articles and a book identified with the subject under study, where they argue that the ABR is a methodology to develop creativity, critical thinking, collaborative learning and motivation, it was concluded that the ABR is a methodology for the student to experience real problem situations against which he/she must present innovative, creative and sustainable solutions over time.
