Abstract The main objective of this research is to perform a comparative analysis of economic indicators that show the evolution of imports and exports reflected in the Ecuadorian trade balance, having as main indicator the innovation that has led the country to improve its competitiveness in the international markets. The method followed consisted of a documentary study. It starts with a review of the literature from different sources of information, highlighting the importance of innovation in the competitiveness of countries. On the other hand, it is analyzed how innovation has influenced the competitiveness of Ecuadorian products through the analysis of the advance of innovation in Ecuador and the evolution of exports of Ecuadorian products with added value. The result of this work allowed to relate the The influence that innovation has had on the evolution of exports of Ecuadorian products to international markets, innovation being a factor of competitiveness that allows countries to boost their economies, highlighting the role of government policies, public investment and private in the (R & D).
