Abstract
MELGAREJO POMAR, Ingrid. DEFICIENCIES IN THE INTERPRETATION OF NORMAL CHESTX-RAYS BY 4th YEAR STUDENTS OF THE MEDICAL SCHOOL. UMSA. Cuad. - Hosp. Clín. [online]. 2005, vol.50, n.1, pp.31-37. ISSN 1562-6776.
RESEARCH QUESTION What are the determining factors that 4rth year-students in neumology are unable to describe correctly a normal chest x-ray in spite of having passed previously radiology and imagenology? GENERAL OBJECTIVE To establish the causes that determine a deficient interpretation of normal chest x-ray, in 4rth-year medical students who are rotating in Neumology. SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES a) To assessthe proximate development zone on normal chest radiology in students in neumology. b) To investigate the teaching methodology used in previous courser for interpreting a normal chest x-ray. c) To determine the factors that inhibits an adequate interpretation of normal chest radiology. d) To establish an adequate methodology for interpreting normal chest x rays LOCATION AND SUBJECTS Medical students rotating through Neumology. METHODS A questionnaire was applied to 115 regular students in the 4rth year of Medical School in 2004. In a 1 rst part, 14 questions were applied to investigate the Methodology of Teaching used by the instructor of Radiology in the previous year. 12 questions asking and investigating the proximate development zone were as good n=10 to 12 = 9%; regular n=7 to 9 = 47%; wrong n= less than 6 = 44%. RESULTS AND CONCLUSIONS The interpretation of a normal chest x ray by a basic questionnaire, demonstrate that the 4th year student rotating through Neumology, are ill prepared to interpret them. The results show a poor knowledge, lackof motivation ofthe students and lack of interest and facilitiesto teach.
