Bolivian Feminism Debates: from 1929 Convention to the "Change Process"

Este artículo es un ensayo interpretativo sobre el devenir del feminismo en Bolivia. Para ello aborda algunos hitos de debate y conflicto en el feminismo en Bolivia, con especificidad desde 1920 a la actualidad, establece los puntos divergentes y ensaya algunas explicaciones. El texto se asienta en una revisión bibliográfica, seleccionando algunas obras representativas del pensamiento feminista o sobre las mujeres en Bolivia. Asimismo, visita la relación del feminismo con la producción académica y artística feminista.

This article is an interpretive essay on the feminism development in Bolivia. In this way, it analyzes some important points of discussion and conflict into the feminism in Bolivia, with specificity since 1920 until today. The text sets the divergent points and rehearse some explanations. It is based on a literature review, selecting some representative works of feminist thought or about women in Bolivia. The article also visited feminisms relationship with feminist academic and artistic production.

Este ensayo esboza el desarrollo de la investigación histórica en Bolivia, examinando los aspectos tanto positivos como negativos. Lo hace adoptando una perspectiva histórica, desde los inicios del saber histórico, al principio del siglo XX, hasta la profesionalización académica de los años sesenta y setenta, pasando por el periodo intermedio de la revolución nacionalista. En todo este proceso, la investigación del pasado correspondió a la necesidad de afirmar la identidad nacional. Actualmente, concluye la autora, se puede decir que el país cuenta con un ejercicio disciplinar en vías de formar un corpus historiográfico científico y maduro, aunque termina señalando su fragilidad y aquellos aspectos que deberían ser superados en el futuro próximo.

This esssay describes the historical research in Bolivia analizing the positives and negative aspects of these studies. It developed the issue through a historical perpective, from the beginning of the century to the sexties and seventies when the profesionalization starts, considering the nationalistic stage in between. This process wanted to reinforce the national identity. Today, according to the author, Bolivia could built his own historiography but, the process is still weak and have to improve in the next future.

University Theater and theater with no university

El artículo revisa y analiza los orígenes, el desarrollo y el papel cumplido por el teatro universitario, tanto en relación con el ámbito general del teatro en Bolivia como en el contexto sociocultural y político del país. Lo hace comparando el auge teatral estudiantil de la primera década del siglo XXI con el tipo de propuestas desarrolladas en las décadas anteriores de la segunda mitad del siglo XX. Por otro lado, examina el rol de la universidad como entidad patrocinadora del teatro universitario, y termina cuestionando que, pese al reconocimiento de la importancia educativa de este campo artístico, las universidades no hayan pasado el límite de los talleres hacia una oferta de formación académica más formal.

This article goes over and analyses the development of University Theater in Bolivia as well as the roll it accomplished related to the general theatrical activities and to the country's sociocultural and political context. The author compares the student theatre boom lived in the XXI century first decade with the theatre laid in the previous decades of the XXth century. On the other hand, she reviews the roll of universities as sponsor of university theatre and concludes wondering why, in spite of the acknowledged importance of this art form, universities in Bolivia didn't underwent from workshops to a theater academic career.

Elements of Political Philosophy in the Colonial Age of Upper Peru: A Provisional Approach

Durante la era colonial española en el Alto Perú (1537-1825) no surgieron obras teóricas que pudiesen ser calificadas como aportes específicos a la filosofía política. Pero en el ámbito universitario y en la administración de justicia se formó una amalgama de alto valor teórico compuesta por ideas de la Escuela de Salamanca y del Derecho Indiano. El núcleo de estas doctrinas proclamaba la igualdad de todos los seres humanos ante Dios y su participación en derechos similares, por un lado, y la legitimidad de la conquista del Nuevo Mundo de parte de los españoles, por otro. En la praxis estas creaciones teóricas no tuvieron efecto sobre el terrible trabajo forzado impuesto a los indígenas.

During the Spanish colonial age in Upper Peru (1537-1825) no works of specifically political philosophy could be detected. But in the universitary space and in the justice administration a combination of ideas coming from the Salamanca School and the Indian Laws reached a high theoretical value. The core of these doctrines claimed the equality of all human beings before God and their equal participation in similar rights, on the one side, and the legimity of the Spanish conquest of the New World, on the other side. In practical everyday's life these theoretical products had no consequences on the terrible forced labour imposed on Indians.

Architecture & Education: Some approaches to the issue

Recurriendo a marcos conceptuales de la práctica arquitectónica, el artículo reflexiona sobre las premisas y condiciones alrededor de las cuales se desarrolla la labor educativa en este ámbito disciplinar. Sostiene que el carácter creativo y proyectivo de la Arquitectura que impone, a estudiantes y profesionales arquitectos, asumir una actitud crítica frente al saber constituido que se imparte en el proceso de enseñanza-aprendizaje, no trasciende al dominio educativo para transformarlo.

The author, resorting to conceptual frames of architectonical practice, deals with premises and conditions of the educative tasks in this disciplinary fleld. She sustains that the creative and projective feature of Architecture that should impose to students and professionals of this fleld a critical approach to the constituted knowledge of the teaching-learning process, does not transcend to the educative domain in order to transform it.
