INSTRUCTIONS TO AUTHORS

 

Editorial policy

The Latin American Journal of Economical Development (LAJED) was first introduced in September 2003 by the Institute of Scio-Economical Research of the Catholic University of Bolivia San Pablo.

The Journal generates two numbers every year which are published in May and November. There are non regular publications of the LAJED corresponding to Special editions whose articles obey more to the need of information and/or actualized analysis and the existing regional and national situation.

The Journal has the mission of investigating the social and economical reality of Bolivian and the region with the objective of generating debate amongst the society and contributing with technical criteria to the diverse public policy makers.

The published works are original y of academic rigor, which cover a wide gamma of socio-economical topics. This works are mainly of theorical nature and applied and centered en structural problems in Latin America and the world. In the past years the main lines of investigation boarded are:

  1. Economical development
  2. Macroeconomical analysis
  3. Public policy design
  4. Commercial integration policy
  5. Energetic integration policy
  6. Climate change
  7. Factual sociological analysis

Finally we remark that the journal counts with ISSN registration and that the published papers are made in accordance with the classification system of the Journal Economic Literature (JEL), therefore the ISO 960 quality standards are obeyed. Also the LAJED is indexed to LATINDEX and REPEC.

 

Review process

The LAJED is a journal arbitrated under the “double blind” mode in which papers are reviewed by at least two evaluators. As a general regulation the evaluators are members of the International Editorial Council and since the LAJED Nº13 this process is directed by the Bolivian Academy of Economical Sciences as an independent instance, with the objective of providing a larger impartiality and technical quality to the presented papers. Every article is also shipped for its revision and evaluation to a specialist in the pertinent topic a semester before its publication, meaning every May and November.

 

Instructions for the authors

All authors that wish to remit a paper for its publication in the LAJED journal must take in consideration the following specifications:

  1. The author’s right of the LAJED journal belongs to the Catholic University of Bolivia San Pablo.
  2. The papers sent for its publication in the journal must be original and unedited, besides they cannot be in a previous process of evaluation in any other diffusion means.
  3. The collaborations will be evaluated in an anonymous way by specialist in the topic attending aspects such as quality, originality, relevance, methodology and supporting literature.
  4. The papers can be sent in Spanish or English to the following e-mails: jaliaga@ucb.edu.bo or tirza@ucb.edu.bo. They can also be sent in their magnetic version to: the Institute of Scio-Economical Research at Catholic University of Bolivia Avenue 14 de Septiembre #4807 Obrajes, La Paz, Bolivia P.O. Box. 4850.
  5. Once the papers have been received they will be send to the evaluators and according to such revision they will be returned to the authors so in a period no longer than two weeks they re enter the edited paper, specifying the changes made in relation to the observations of the evaluator. After which the author will be notified by the editor regarding the final evaluation accepting or rejecting the paper.
  6. If your article was received up to May of the following year the same will be published in the number corresponding to November of the Journal.
  7. The paper must be presented in Microsoft Word, letter size sheets of 8.5 x 11 inches, Times New Roman writing size 12 with simple inter lining. The charts and graphs used must be also added in a Microsoft Excel for editing purpose with the used data. All pages must be numbered consecutively. The titles and subtitles must be numerated with bold Arabic numbers (E.g. 1 or 2 … 1.1 or 2.1). Both tittles and subtitles must be situated to the left in the margin.
  8. The first page must contain the following information: i) Title of the paper (Spanish and English) ii) the name (s) of the author (s) with a “*” to a Reference which must contain the info about his affiliation and contact address. The following page will include the title but will omit the author’s name to ensure anonymity during the evaluation process. The first page must also contain a brief abstract (no more than 150 words) in both languages. The JEL code (s) (up to 5 codes can be added to the paper) and key words in both languages.
  9. The extension of the document cannot exceed 30 pages including: references, bibliography, annexes, boards/charts, figures/graphs and photographs.
  10. The references will be numbered consecutively according to the text with a supra-index in Arabic numbers. This must be in Times New Roman writing size 12 with simple inter lining and justified.
  11. The formulas must be processed in the Microsoft Word equation editor. They must also be numbered consecutively according to the text as: (1), (2), etc. in the right side at the margin.
  12. The boards/charts, figures/graphs and photographs. Must follow the APA regulations
  13. The bibliographic references must follow the APA regulations and will be numbered consecutively with Arabic numbers at the left side in the margin in alphabetical order.

 

 

Fort he International Editorial Council

The papers of the LAJED journal must be submitted to evaluation by professionals specialized in the topic of each article.
All evaluators will make use of a form in which all aspects that according to the criteria of the Editorial Council the papers must fulfill in general for their publication in the LAJED journal will be recorded. The evaluator will grade the fulfillment of this aspects and issue at the ending a written opinion on the quality of the paper. Some of the aspects the evaluator must take into account are:

  1. Originality and innovation of the paper.
  2. Pertinence of the paper according to the actual situation.
  3. Clearness of the text, even for non experts in the topic, they must include in its evaluation the orthography and redaction in order to improve the quality of the paper.
  4. Scientific rigor, main conclusions on the paper.
  5. Every objection, comment or critic must be formulated clearly y by written.
  6. The Arbiters final decision, accepting or rejecting the paper, must be supported by his/hers respective arguments by written.
  7. The evaluator must have present that other evaluators of the same piece may have different technical levels or points of view and that the editor may have to take the publishing decision basing it in reports with different recommendations. Therefore it is of great use to the editor the explanation of the decision causes proposed by the reviewer.
  8. All the evaluated articles must be delivered with their respective forms and letters from the evaluator in a period no larger than 20 calendar days, since the reception of it.
